Rafa trumps Federer again

I gotta admit, I didn't even get to see the Dubai final on tv. Worse, no idea if it was shown over cable or not. Men in tights are shown regularly, choke-slamming and pinning each other. You can count on wrestling to be shown week after week but tennis, that's a little harder to find. And I gotta point the finger at work. It makes you feel like your hobbies are time-wasters grrrr.

Rafa vs Fed is always a dream, and a nightmare. When you're a fan of both, you don't know to cringe or clap when someone wins a point. If I had caught this, I'd think I would have been rooting for Nadal, just because he had been injured for awhile and missed the Aussie Open. So that worked out nicely in the end :)

Rafa won in 3 sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 and did so although in the end he won only 71 points to Fed's 78. The head-to-head record now stands at 3-1 in favour of Rafa. Against a man who almost everyone else loathes to meet on court, it is an indication of just how much Rafa's going to dominate tennis, which would mean more of an incentive for me to keep watching the yellow balls whizz by even when I'm bogged with work. With his win, Rafa has also halted Roger Federer's 56(!) matches record-winning streak.

“Losing in finals is the worst. I prefer to lose in the first round to be honest. I’ve won so many finals, and probably I’ve had my luck in the last couple of years. Dubai has been great to me. I’ve won here three times in a row. It could have been a fourth, but I’m not too disappointed after all. I’m pretty much pleased with my performance, and I now look forward to the hard courts in America.“
